A-rated windows and doors are usually double or even triple-glazed in colder climates and they include thermal seals that eliminate the gaps and prevent the heat from escaping.

Double glazing works by trapping air between two panes of glass, therefore creating an insulating barrier that reduces heat loss, noise and condensation.

Double glazing is one of the most popular home improvement / insulation jobs carried out. Although draught proofing and loft insulation are possibly more cost effective, double glazing leads the way, probably because the effects are more noticeable and immediate; the reduction of cold draughts, noise and increased comfort level around the house.
